In this program Volunteers will have the opportunity to help
in a wide range of practical village-based projects. These projects
could be as basic as painting or plastering, but those with
additional skills may be able to help in more advanced work.
Projects are usually decided upon in consultation with local
communities, but you can use your initiative to suggest projects
of your own. It is vital to be sensitive to the needs and
wishes of the local community.
Projects are funded by CCSV-Nepal and/or volunteer contributions
or partly funded by Communities. Volunteers will work with
other volunteers in small groups, usually with no supervision.
Often you'll also work alongside villagers, learning about
traditional methods of building and working. Example projects
include school repair and decoration; toilet building; drinking
water projects; road drainage projects; recycling projects;
stove building; and construction work.
Location:
Placements are available in the Kathmandu Valleys. The exact
location of your placement is finalised during the training
where you will visit several potential project sites. Project
placement also takes into consideration:
| |
• Your skills and preferences • The
needs and requirements of the schools • Seasonal
weather patterns |
Project Life:
You will be met at the airport by a representative of your
guesthouse and taken back to your accommodation. All volunteers
will receive initial training after arriving in Kathmandu.
The training is designed to help you settle into Nepal and
to ensure you are fully prepared for your volunteer placement:
A typical training period is as follows:
Phase - I
| Day 1 – 2 |
the first two days will be spent with other volunteers
in CCSV-Nepal Kathmandu Training includes: |
| |
- Nepali cultural orientation / general cultural exchange
- The people of Nepal and their caste system

Nepali village life Training includes language classes,

village culture and getting a general feel for the lifestyle. |
| |
During this time, you will also visit several
schools and community projects where you can choose to
be based. |
This program is just as it sounds – working on the
general upkeep and beautifying the schools and community to
make for a safer and pleasant environment for the students
as well as helping to improve the facilities they have available
to them.
This program will vary greatly depending on the current needs.
You may need to work independently or within a small group
so being flexible will be to your advantage.
There will be some set projects that the area may have but
there may be times when initiative will be required.
*It is extremely helpful to the School & Community
Maintenance Program to do fundraising before you
reach Nepal. CCSV-Nepal will do what we can to support the
care to the Nepali communities, however, noting that we are
an extremely grassroots not-for-profit organization, our funds
are very limited. It may be possible for Volunteers to also
bring resources.

Contributions:
Volunteer Contribution is vital to our organization for raising
funds. Please be aware that in addition to covering transportation
and accommodation cost we charge our volunteers a nominal
amount supports the on going efforts of the project and activities.
CCSV-Nepal keeps cost as low as possible, a difficult task
in itself. The most important use for the volunteer's program
fees is on the project itself. Program fees help fund the
project and program activities, from school supplies to construction
materials. With every new volunteer comes the funding to continue
the project into the future.
