Volunteering at an orphanage in Nepal, give you a unique opportunity
to make a real contribution to Nepali society, while simultaneously
experiencing the rich culture and difference aspects of urbanand
rural life in Nepal, one of the most beautiful and diverse countries
in the world. The work will vary for each orphanage as some
will require you to be available to teach whereas others you
will not have this opportunity. You should speak with onsite
staff of the orphanage as to your particular responsibilities
at the orphanage where you will be based. Often there will be
a volunteer in your placement who has started in a previous
month. These people will be an excellent source of information
and direction.
It is necessary that volunteers are flexible and willing
to adapt to situations as they arise. Volunteers cannot predict
what each day may bring. Those Volunteers that are placed
where they will teach should expect to do so for a full day.
There may be a lot more planning required of them compared
to those volunteers where the orphaned children attend local
schools.
The children at the orphanages are prone to illness because
of lack of health care and the environment they are living
in and this can be one of the issues that may take on as a
volunteer - helping the children to be aware of health related
needs. Basic things such as teaching them to brush their teeth,
maintaining regular hygiene routines and nutrition are important.
Health profiles of each child can be written and maintained
to chart each child's progress.
*It is extremely helpful to the Orphanage Program to do fundraising
in your home country for supplies and materials to help improve
the living conditions of the orphaned and destitute children
once they reach Nepal. CCSV-Nepal will do what we can to support
the care to the Nepali communities, however, noting that we
are an extremely grassroots not-for-profit organization, funds
are very limited.

weather patterns |
Project Life

guesthouse and taken back to your accommodation. All volunteers
will receive initial training after arriving in Kathmandu.

to ensure you are fully prepared for your volunteer placement:

Nepali village life Training includes language classes,
living with local families, eating traditional food, observing
village culture and getting a general feel for the lifestyle. |
| |
During this time, you will also visit several
Orphanages where you can choose to be based. |
Working in an orphanage and with children ensures that no
two days are ever alike. You should expect to work approximately
3 – 5 hours per day, for 5 – 6 days per week.
The orphanages are very flexible and you can arrange days
off to explore the local area.
Your daily task is to support the children and full time
staff at the orphanage. This may take various forms; one day
you may focus on traditional forms of education such as teaching
English, or may look at other forms of education such as personal
hygiene. The following day might involve accompanying children
to the hospital, or taking them out on a day trip.

Contributions:
Volunteer Contribution is vital to our organization for raising
funds. Please be aware that in addition to covering transportation
and accommodation cost we charge our volunteers a nominal
amount supports the on going efforts of the project and activities.
CCSV-Nepal keeps cost as low as possible, a difficult task
in itself. The most important use for the volunteer's program
fees is on the project itself. Program fees help fund the
project and program activities, from school supplies to construction
materials. With every new volunteer comes the funding to continue
the project into the future.
