program for the street children, free education program and day centers

Philippine
laws provide for a community health centre in each of its 41,000 barangays
(communities). Sadly, not all communities have their own health centers and
those that have one are woefully under-equipped and understaffed.
Medically-trained volunteers may help in community health centers and
hospitals, and may perform medical tasks depending on their skills and
qualifications. They may also conduct training and workshops to teach people on
hygiene, health care, reproductive health care, first-aid, and other health
concerns.
Volunteers may also help set up clinics in public schools and train teachers
and students to become effective health officers and clinic custodians.
Community and municipal health centers are open only from Mondays to Fridays.
Saturday and Sunday are days off. There are no set working days for disaster
relief operations. This program is offered all year round.
Only volunteers who are in their final year of study or who are professional
doctors or nurses can participate in the Health Program. Medical students are
most welcome. Student-volunteers are welcome to conduct research projects if
they so wish, provided they do not in any way interfere with the mandate of the
program.
Volunteers may choose between rural or urban placements in this program.
Short-term volunteers may like to consider an urban area placement. The work of
the volunteers is subject to the needs of the particular health centers or
hospitals.
The Philippines Teaching Englsih
Program
The Philippine
educational system is patterned after the American education system. The medium
of instruction in most subjects is English. Volunteers are asked to follow the
set curriculum of local schools. Volunteers may also like to arrange
extracurricular activities for the students. Do you have a special skill or
talent? Please remember parents' permission is needed for out of campus
extracurricular activities.
Class size averages 45 students in rural areas while urban areas can reach up
to 60 to 80 students. Confidence is vital as volunteers will be the sole
teacher in the class room. Since classes cannot proceed when you are not
available, please notify the school staff as soon as possible to allow them
time to find a replacement during times of sickness or unavailability.
Volunteer Duties:
Day Care Centers:

skills (only in schools where computers are available).
The Philippines Child Care Centres/Rehabilitation
Program
The high mortality
rate for mothers during childbirth, as well as the short life expectancy in
general, leaves thousands of children without parents each year. As a result,
most of these needy children are deprived of education and find work as child
laborers in restaurants, factories, hotels, slaves, and as trash collectors.
These disadvantaged children need attention, love, care, and the opportunity to
further their education.
Child care Centers provide these
kids with daily meals, a bed, and some hope. Volunteering in the Child care
centres or Rehabilitation is a really great opportunity to experience the
obstacles and rewards of serving helpless people. Volunteers will be placed
either in Centre or host facilities near to the placement, where they will
spend most of their time with the children, assisting them in their day-to-day
routines.
Volunteers Duties:
As Volunteer in this Program you will work in Child
Centers or Rehabilitation assisting children with various activities including
games, sports, teaching, hygiene & education. You will also assist the
local staff with helping them in administration work where possible. You can
get involved in art & craft and organizing short trips to local
destinations with the children. Once you get involved you will not want to
leave as the kids give so much love and affection to you. Volunteers who would
wish to help the orphanage in routine tasks as well as initiate special
activities. Volunteers can help in cleaning, feeding and playtime
activities for the abandoned, neglected, surrendered and street kids in the
community.
Location
Volunteers
in the Philippines offer you the opportunity to experience the charm of the Country
through three program locations.
The First & Second Program is based in Metro Manila and
the nearby cities. The project includes an outreach program for the street children,
free education program and day centers, Teaching English & Medical Health
& Education The project focuses on the young and vulnerable to assist them
in finding a way out of the trap of poverty and to train them in vocational
skills so that they can become contributing members to their families and
society. In this program you can enjoy both a combine volunteering &

Program
in Metro Manila is
more suited for short term volunteers of two weeks to one month. As one of the
world's biggest cities, it is as cosmopolitan as any city can get. But being
third world, it has wide swaths of poverty-stricken districts existing side by
side with skyscrapers and sprawling malls.
Health volunteers will be taken to both urban and rural
placements, depending on where medical missions will be conducted by T2h-Asia
community partner health organizations. They will also conduct on-site
visitations to both public and private hospitals for them to be given a more
complete appreciation of the health care system of a developing country.
Our third Project is in Batangas
City (bätän´gäs),
city is a province of the Philippines located on the southwestern part of Luzon in the CALABARZON region. Its capital is Batangas
City and it is bordered by the provinces of Cavite and Laguna to the north and Quezon to the east. Across the Verde Island Passages to the south is the
island of Mindoro and to the west lies the South China Sea.
Batangas City (1990 pop. 184,970) An important port on the Calumpan
River near its mouth on Batangas Bay, it has a large oil refinery and serves a
fertile farm area noted for its fruits, cacao, and coffee. Tourist attractions
in Batangas province include Lake Taal, with its active volcano (which erupted in 1965, causing
extensive damage and many deaths), and the popular summer resort city of Tagaytay.
Some of the
environmental, teaching, and school building maintenances volunteers will be
placed there. There are banks that accept Visa, Master card and Plus ATM cards.
There are internet cafes in the town centres. Volunteers must be ready to
tackle challenges. But they will be rewarded with some of the countries more
pristine and gorgeous sceneries and beaches.
